NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500
Blast Inhibition Container for Aircrafts Use
General Description
The NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500 is a Blast Inhibitor Device to be used for isolating explosive devices in aircraft and which consists of a disposable box with a top section. The walls and the top section are filled with a specially formulated gas-liquid and are constructed from materials that will not produce dangerous secondary fragmentation. The NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500 container has in addition an inner anti-fragmentation liner made from a high polymeric-aramid fabric, similar in performance to ballistic armor. The NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500 blast inhibitor is constructed to isolate explosives devices and reduce the hazards of an explosion. The blast inhibitor NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500 is designed to reduce blast effects caused by an explosion equal to up to 0.5 kg TNT, stop fragmentation, completely suppress any thermal effects and significantly reduce shock wave over pressure.
Technical Properties
- Outer dimensions of blast inhibitor (including top section): 520x520x460 mm.
- Inner volume dimensions: 285x285x165 mm.
- Container weight: 23 kg (50 lb).
- Storage container weight: 5-7 kg (11-15 lb).
Tests
The subject tests were conducted by XX WVAT.
The objective was to measure the Airblast pressure at several distances from a 200 gram explosive charge of Composition C4 (equivalent to 270gr TNT) placed in a laptop computer and inside the blast inhibition device. Measurements were taken by Model 137 Piezoelectric pressure transducers, placed in gage stands and deployed as described in the following chart.
The explosive charges were placed at a height of 0.7 meters for each test.
Test I: 0.2 Kg Composition C4 Bare (equivalent to 0.27 Kg TNT)
Test II: 0.2 Kg Composition C4 in NO PASARAN -3 -VAT-500 (equivalent to 0.27 Kg TNT)
The following table contains the peak pressure and impulse data measured on the two tests:

* DOUBLE PULSE PRESSURE SIGNAL
* The double pulse phenomenon was caused by the direct blast wave and the reflected blast wave from the ground between the explosion and the gage. The impulses measured also increased by the double pulse phenomenon.

Conclusions
- The peak pressures from 0.2 Kg C4 were reduced in value by a factor of between 4 to 8 when tested in the NO PASARAN-3-VAT-500.
- The NO PASARAN -3-VAT-500 rapidly quenched the fireball from the 0.2 Kg C4 explosion.
- The Equivalent Weight of 0.022 was found for the Test II and indicates that the blast wave from the 0.2 Kg C4 charge behaves like that from 0.022X0.2 Kg or 4.4 grams.
- Vertical plywood target board remain undamaged.
- Horizontal plywood target board (simulating aircraft floor) remain undamaged.
- From the standpoint of the Airblast alone, there shouldn't be an injury hazard to humans even at a distance of 1.0 meters.
The tests were managed by XX WVAT - XX Century Wars Veterans Against Terror at NATO Military bases Camp Marmal, Pouli Humri and Kadaga.
